Marty Stano entertains himself as a writer, filmmaker, performer, traveler, and teacher. He attended University of Michigan where he received a B.A. in Screen Arts and Cultures in 2008 and was nominated for a Student Academy Award. Marty has written and directed several award-winning short films, music videos, and advertisements that have screened at international festivals. He won MOFILM’s Barcelona Grand Prize along with a nomination for TED’s ‘Ads Worth Sharing’ for a Mountain Dew advertisement entitled The Pitch.

Marty collaborated with the EFEX Project, a learning program that educates and inspires metro Detroit students, while directing a young cast in the short film Taffy, Cigarettes. EFEX Project previously produced feature film Bilal’s Stand, which screened at Sundance.

With a grant from Eastern Michigan University, Marty developed and facilitated an after-school filmmaking program at three high school sites where his students produced short environmental films that garnered awards from local festivals.

After licensing footage from an Alaska road trip to NatGeo WILD, Marty began his journey as a travel filmmaker. The Glimpse Correspondents Program chose Marty as their Fall 2012 filmmaker. Marty is completing two short documentaries from his 10-month experience living in Chile, where he taught English as a volunteer and backpacked through Patagonia.

In his TEDx talk, Adventures with Minimalism and Happiness, Marty shares his passion for minimalism, health, travel, education, and happiness. He is writing his first book of the same title.

Marty currently resides in Seattle, Washington. He loves to explore the city on a long run and escape for a peaceful hike in the wilderness. You may find him pedaling the streets, rain or shine, while working part-time as a bicycle courier. Or, you may find him working out his brain at some theatre while improvising scenes with his improv crew Brunch at Tony's. At home, Marty watches a lot of kung fu films and passes time in the kitchen making raw juices, smoothies, and vegetarian meals.

Marty's curiosity, creativity, and adaptability to various living and working conditions make him an asset to any project or endeavor.
